Central Locking

Sorry guys, nothing to do with welding whatsoever. My daughters' car has developed a habit of unlocking itself. Is there a way of disabling the central locking? It's an L reg Clio, locking is done with the key, not with a fob. Renault dealers don't like to give advice, only sell you things. Thanks in advance.....

Judging by Malcolm's car locking is a novelty, let alone central locking.

I convinced my sister that my Renault 4 had central locking the other day. She was waiting outside the door and I told her I'd already unlocked it using the remote key fob. In reality I didn't lock it in the first place as it's a pain going round 5 doors.

L reg should be simple - just a little motor in each door - if there's too much force (wear or misalignment) they'll unlock. Assuming there's no alarm or immobiliser should be OK to disconnect them.

There's probably a dedicated fuse for them you can pull out. Otherwise Pull the door trims off and unplug the wires.

Renaults normally have a smaller control unit that is usually found clipped onto the side of the fuse board under the glove box. From what you've said I would guess that its the control unit that is kippered. You could either get a 'new' one from a scrap yard or just unplug the control unit and remember to lock the doors individually.

I tried pulling out the fuse for the traction control on the missus vectra once, but it cut off the abs and the power steering mysteriously would not work either cars really are strange

traction control uses the same system as the abs so that explains that, dunno how you managed to kill the power steering though

At a guess it might have any electric power steering pump or its something to do with the yaw sensor for the EPS.
