Hi guys!
Been a couple of years now since I was asking about techniques and methods for spraying my Spitfire, this time round I'm looking to respray my bonnet!
I reckon I didnt lay down enough coats on it initially, or, I laid the coats on too thin. The finish was quiet orange peely so I lost a lot of the 'thickness' through cutting back.
The bonnet looks ok and its not until you're up close that you can see scratchy areas, even with a good cutback with 1500 through to 2500 grit and compounding they remain, its as if I went too coarse on the GRP surface and over time the primer has sank into the scratches? When I tried again recently to compound and polish it I ended up cutting through in a couple of very small areas.
Anyway, I'm going to remove the bonnet, fix up a couple of areas and respray it. Can you give me an idea of the process. The finish has been polished, waxed and shined numerous times and I'm sure I've gotten silicone spray on it from various under bonnet cleaning. So I assume a damn good cleaning, but after that?
