Cebora Tig Star 251

Seen one of these advertised locally to me, obviously an oldish set and can't seem to find much out about them. It says single or three phase, is that easy enough to change over? Are these worth buying, are spares still available?

Its advertised for £400 with a pedal.

Post some images LanLad. Cebora do really good kits and especially if it is an old lady the quality definitely is there!The issue with the old stuff is, that you need a good check as maybe their master wasn't kind with them .
If you know the guy then is another story!

I used to have a Tig Star 160P it was a good set...a fair size as it was a transformer machine.
I had no problems at all with it.
I should think the single/three phase bit could just be a switch on the back to select which one you are running it off.

Hi thanks for replies. I haven't got any pics of it, the welder is advertised in a local paper, I was after some opinions on it before I gave them a ring to go and have a look. Size of machine not a problem and don't mind the transformer based machine using more power than an inverter, I just like something that when it goes wrong is repairable at a sensible price.

It will be my first tig set so don't want to spend a fortune on one as it wont be earning me any money untill I've got the knack of it.

Like many other big ol' transformer machines it appears to be single phase multivoltage. The 3 phase bit comes from the fact that you use 2 phases of a 3 phase supply (instead of 1 phase and neutral) to bump the voltage up. This is done because big ol' transformer TIGs are hungry beasts, a google images pic of the data plate which suggests it's capable of pulling 78A running flat out on 230V
