I think I can go mostly into the house at floor void level, though a chimney has the only sensible view to the rear so it might be a pain if the cables are short.

Thanks @Barlidge. I'm about halfway between Bedford and you. I've been struggling to get an electrician to extend some circuits and also want to move some fire alarm cables. It's going to be a job for the summer with some disruption. Though after that it's only really decoration.

Don't bother going down the ip route unless your using an existing network. You can get some decent HD analogue kits if you can get the cables back to one spot with alot less faf. Check out Domar thay have loads of options and camera styles and have tech people to call if you have problems. Most of there bits are just rebranded hik stuff too.

I've ordered a system. the Hic Vision 4 camera thing linked on the last page. I'm not convinced police will be interested with the video or are even bothered about catching criminals. But when I see where they walk I'll have a good idea where to put the man traps.

Man traps are best when used with Claymores.

Thanks for all the info. HIK cameras in a kit with their own recording box is looking like the best bet for me. After all the Chinese are exterts Tempted by one of the packages with 6 cameras so I can have a couple in the workshop and the house too.

I'm doing the wiring this year so should be easy enough adding the ethernet cables as I go along, so the only real expense is the camera kit.

He has a tendency to post them at $5 declared value for some reason. I’ve never paid duty strangely enough
