Which hidden cameras do you use?if you can get a 8 or 9 system for pennys its worth the upgrade
remember worth updating your hard drives yearly
too high and the camers are near on useless
too low and they can get damaged
once there aware of them they cover up hence why i use hidden ones
now as ive done this and remember your the holder of this data
they must not enter a neighbours window
they can run down the line of fence but must not cover into neighbours garden ( height reference )
recording sound is a grey area but ive used this evidence in court some people do call there friends names when there causing damage
police and court case bang to rights it would have been stupid to claim im innocent
police or the court never questioned me on the subject of sound on the cctv evidence

Only issues are the price does not include hard drive. The cameras are 5mp not 8mp but as I don't understand how either of those relate to 4k we had best leave comments to the experts.Cheers all. I’ve changed my mind regards camera type and think domes might be better. Anyone see any issues with this kit?
I’ll add in 4 x cable. Hopefully installation should be pretty straight forwards as I’ll fit the cameras to the soffits and run the cables up into the loft. Not sure where to put the nvr yet.

Does the nvr not store the data?
I might be wrong but my understanding is the NVR is the control box that is fitted with a hard drive and the drive stores the data.

It's a minefield.
I am looking to get a ring doorbell for my son's house for Xmas . When I got mine I mate a mistake.
I thought the plug in external power supply charged the battery. It DOES NOT. It only top it up an extra day or two useage.
So I drilled a hole and now use USB charging from a mains adapter. They expect you to remove the battery every few days.
After I purchased I found out why is was cheaper. Next generation has mains charging without removing battery.
Now they are onto gen 4 and have a couple of chimes as they don't come with chimes
While double checking I have found more added to the range so just buying one doorbell is even more of a minefield.
I feel your pain choosing cameras.

I have had this wired in system lurking in my ebay basket, its ok to use with very long extension cables of over 100mts long. Cant use wireless around here.

dome cameras are ok but im more than prepared to drill holes into barge boards or soffit boards
to fit a normal small camera behind the frame
sticking them in full view dosnt always get what you want as all they do is cover up

the nvr is like a pc it has its own software thats stored onto lets say its own memory sort of an nvme stick
the hard drive is the storing area for large files
most nvr or dvr come with a hard drive already installed some dont and you have to buy them or you can upgrade them yourself
1tb 2tb or 4tb its all yor cost in end but consider this make sure you can upgrade its hard drive to a bigger hard drive

You can buy the nvr with hard drive fitted. I think most come without. I fitted my own like this.
I would go with 8 port rather than 4 port nvr. If you decide you want an extra camera then you've room.
The size of your hard drive goes by how many cameras you have and whether they record continuously or by motion and the mp they are and then they record over and over old footage. Mine is big enough to keep a months footage.

The VR stands for video recorder so yes they both record and store your video.
NVR is a network video recorder so it takes the video from an IP (internet protocol, the camera has a built in server) CCTV camera which has already been digitised to fit down an Ethernet cable.
DVR is digital video recorder which paradoxically means it takes old fashioned analog video and then has to digitise it so it can write the footage to its own hard drive.
NVR is generally “better” because they can also use POE (power over Ethernet) so all you have to do to wire one up is to run one ethernet connector which sends control, setup and receives encoded video and delivers power. This is great for PTZ (pan tilt zoom) cameras because you can steer the camera view from the comfort of your own home.
You can build your own NVR/DVR system from a server (I am doing that now) but it is a real chore because you need to source your own software to do all the tricky management. Can be a lot cheaper though….
The advantage is an NVR can also be used for storing your YouTube content for editing, all your films for TV and of course all your CCTV. They generally get stuffed full with multi terabyte drives…

It does, it’s like a PC though, inside there’s a hard disk drive. On the link you posted there is a drop down for choosing what capacity of hard drive you want. TB is short for terabyte.
How big do you need. It depends on:
Number of cameras
sensor size (4MP, 5MP, 8MP - higher means bigger files)
Recording quality (adjustable)
How many days you want to look back
Continuous or event recording
One the one hand if you go too small you can always just get a bigger one later. On the other it’s less than twice the price for twice the storage space.

Really Gaz I'm surprised at you for spreading such misinformation when youtube has the real answers:
In summary:
Covering neighbour's property is mostly ok (ring doorbells) so long as it's incidental and most of the coverage is of your own proprerty.
Camera down a fence line is NOT OK unless it's your property. If it's communal/public area then you're on dodgy ground.
Recording sound from outside your boundary VERY dodgy.

my reference is the cameras low enough to catch the edge of a fence and down it not going into others propertys

for 1800.00 of damage they only got a 200.00 fine between them
that included a hire car they bricked, smashed kitchen window, doors kicked in and slege hammered
i can assure you ive had enough evidence to hang them
