I had the factory fit CD autochanger under the drivers seat on mine.

I think I do too, so I'm hoping to chop the mounting bracket up to use for the CB, factory head unit is long gone

all these old CB radios and hams on here perhaps set up a day and time all go for it at the same time see who we can find!

as to the OP all our 2cvs have them fitted as we often head off in loose convoy to far off places - its usefull to be able to tell your mates your stopping for a pee, taken a wrong turn or that youv'e found a good campsite, cafe etc. Using mobliles while driving isnt really an option it gets expensive for silly chat ( ooh look at that cow etc) and texts often get delayed and cant be done when driving so useless for real time info.

I used to love the radios, had loads and loads of them, Cobra's, Deltas and god knows what, used to work 934Mhz and many other bands Plus play with some SSTV back in the 8088/80486DX PC days, was a good laugh, Had a BIG MAC antenna on a 60ft tower and some beef to put up it Sold all my old gear inc my old DRAKE R8E receiver, amps, preamps, meters, ATU's, PSUs....the list was long! Prob had 20-30 radios all set up in my "shack" all that time back, even had 934Mhz handhelds from Nevada. Also used to work a few HAM bands, inc 6.6 hahaha

Edit: I used to work at Brakers World with Keith Hudders and John Boumont. A few of us are still kicking around. Poor old Keith died a few years back, RIP.

Best fun we had with a cb when young in the old AM days was a pa speaker behind the grill. 3 am some guy walking his dog. By he didnt half jump when the car spoke to him!

I ended up with a CRT SS9900, spoke all over Europe with it

I also took my foundation so I use 70cm/2m a lot these days

We had a shop that traded as a fishing tackle shop and could not make it pay.
They switched to selling CB radios and Air Rifles and are still trading....so i guess you must be right.

Fairly quiet down here during the morning and evening commutes. Rare to hear the Gloucester 70cm repeater pop up and the 2m repeater seems to only have a couple of regulars in the mornings. A couple of regulars call on S20 but it's certainly not as busy as it used to be.

Once my playroom is setup again I may be a bit more active myself, especially if I can find another Creed 444 to go AFSK again! Used to be the BARTG newsreader for a while in the 90s. I know it can be done on a computer, but there is nothing like a proper snorting and active beast in the corner. ;-)

I find it’s very regional, West Yorkshire you can be waiting to get on a repeater, Scunthorpe is the same. East Yorkshire is a lot quieter.

I’m on the edge (literally a cliffe edge) of the country today, and would normally try get into Europe on ssb, however I removed my antenna to go into a multi story car park this weekend and forgot to re attach it

Best I can do currently is a dual band handheld, until I have time to sort the playroom out. That and the dual bander in the car. I have an Icom 7100 to install then, together with a full wave loop for 80m down and various VHF / UHF verticals.

Borrowed a mates truck and that’s got a cb in the cab, never touched it because of the phone laws but apparently they are exempt Anyway I don’t know what channel this thing was tuned into but found listening to it was a big help with regards traffic holdups and Vosa checkpoints, one of those can cost an hour. Anyway I bought one but the cab on my truck is fibreglass so I need to mod it, anyone of the cbists on here know what needs doing?

No mods required, but for a conventional whip aerial you could do with a decent counterpoise. Decide where the aerial is going and should it not be mounted to steel, make a ground plane from aluminium foil, as large as you can make it and ideally bond it down to the chassis. If the aerial is mounted to the back bumper or direct to the chassis, you will be fine.

A fibreglass roof may need to be strengthened if you are mounting there, so after the foil, fit a large metal plate as a brace, in clean contact with the foil.

Do these modern CB units have anyway of being modified like the old CB days, I know a few of the modern PMR radio can be "unlocked" like my inteks

I don’t know if there is any need these days, mine does am/fm/ssb 26.5-29.9 MHz, dual watch and eleventy million other things I don’t use

Yes it is, I found that after I posted...

Still has to be an approved set though - and approved for that particular use.

My ft-757 has the capability of running legal modes, but it's illegal to use...

yeah mine was widebanded. good radio back in the day, bought mine new when I got my G4 and got a good lump back for it 30 odd years later.
