One of mine that I had many years ago started to chew on cables but I caught him and a few well aimed shots with a water pistol straight down his lughole cured him of the desire to nibble on cables.

What is it about water and cats. I've got a ginger Tom and he will go out in the rain for hours and come back soaked but if he gets a tiny sprinkle of water on him indoors its like he's been shot.

He'll come in soaked to the skin rubbing himself all over the place to dry off until I catch him with a towel.
