@gaz1 good luck keeping a cat in your garden! They aren't like dogs and keeping one confined would be cruel.

My old cat wouldn’t leave the garden and if the wind blew he would run inside bless him

The sensor ones are the only way Iv seen it work
An old neighbour had it on the front gravel driveway and you never saw a cat near it

When we rented out our house years ago the tenant had put some wierd electrical gadgets in both the gardens. Cat scarers, emitted a super high pitch squeal if you got near them.
My daughter could hear it, she hated it, but not me, I couldn't even tell if they were turned on. Apparently they worked quite well, kept the cats away, so the tenants said.

worst thing mother heard somewhere was "fill 3 litre clear plastic bottles up with water and dot then round the garden as the cats dont like there own reflections" that didnt work and father had to collect about 50 bottles up in the end lol

I saw that post, I think he was explaining that homeowners are driven to doing illegal things. That's fairly well known, I've seen vets on TV and online say that cats commonly come in having had these things happen. The Police probably know exactly how to investigate these incidents as well.

I also once read that cats have a legal right to roam, so nothing that can be legally done about it.

No, it was just suggesting doing something horrible.
Cats, by their nature, are roaming animals. I have two dogs and we still get the odd one that wanders in but they don't normally hang around long once they see the dogs.

It's unfair that a neighbours animals can damage your property and its tough crap. I dont know of any other animal that would be allowed to do this.
I also had the same problem and the cats destroyed anything I planted. They crapped in the pots on the doorstep, sometimes missed it and it fell on the doorstep.
Came home from work to find my dogs neck swollen. Took it to the vets and the vet said it had been attacked by a cat. I found this unacceptable that I couldn't leave my dog safe on my own property were neighbours could buy loads of cats that they can't control and don't care what damage they do.
In regards to them crapping on my property I threw it back onto the owners property.
When a cat attacks my pets and damages my property and can't be controlled then I have no problem getting rid of it illegally.

What confuses me with one of our cats, it uses the garden, when there are 1000s of acres of unpopulated ground around us. Gave up on the raised beds for this very reason. Will soon all be lawn with auto mower!

I used to provide my neighbour with "get off"...that seemed to work. The other option is add some pebbles to the bed...they don't like stones in their litter!

We had problems with foxes doing it everywhere...they seemed to want to mark our garden.

A super soaker is the other option. I had no problem with people throwing water at my cat...he soon got the message too. Better water than something that'll hurt them.

Neighbour's cats crap all over my lawn. Especially where my kids like to play. Very annoying!

The original and best creosote used to be a good deterrent for cats and foxes. We filled tights with news paper soaked in creosote and hung them where we didn’t want cats n foxes

I don't see why cats shouldn't follow the same laws as dogs. When we adopted our two GSD rescues we had to show the garden was escape proof. And they have to be 'under control' if we take them for a walk, and we have to pick up their dung.

My sister has two cats, some rare breed, and we have escape proofed her back garden too. It can be done.

our garden is designed with drought in mind so mostly succulents...with little digging up once planted......with a few flowerse to the house.....
we use chicken wire laid on the ground/beds after we've planted up..
most stuff will grow thru the happily.......
our 3 cats have no probs with our 3 B/Collies or the 5 rescue pups but strange feline visitors get short shrift.....

Only one of your own I would think. Cats are generally very clean and don't do it on their doorstep. They also like somewhere that takes little effort to rake over, like a cultivated flower bed. As they are quite territorial, a puss of your own would soon deter interlopers from its "own territory".

the lurcher i had and the whippet i have now soon discourage them when they have had there backsided bitten or chased out they stay clear now not seen one in ages

oh i know the feeling all too well

not much you can do to be honest as owners wont keep them in there gardens or in a cat pen, yet scream foul play if you do anything that keeps them out

we had a small dog but they still come in within reason as both next doors had cats

ive tried water guns they hate getting wet, id suggest a water pump and sensors personally, i prefer the crow scare sensor and a bang with it

this is not me

its resulted in poisonings to being shot at as people get sick of them

I always tell neighbors that if they see our cat in their garden they are more than welcome to give it a squirt from a water pistol. My thoughts that cats unlike dogs are not fully domesticated so its unfair to stop their wandering.One of our cats doesnt go any further than our garden or our neighbors but the other travels further.

They learn very quick....if you want them out just throw a cup of cold water in their general direction. They really hate water...not just the water itself but it's the sound of it I think.

That's what I told my neighbours to do with my cat...I'd rather have a wet cat than an injured cat!

With vet bills easily running into hundreds.. if my cat was injured deliberately I'd be looking to get the cost back! ...not a problem anymore sadly

it dont happen on purpose. i sometimes look before i let him out and they get a good start and jump through the hedge he still does the 50 yard sprint though

Dad had good success with an old air rifle and also separately with an old tyre pump filled with old engine oil. Gave the cat a good old squirt and spent so long cleaning itself it never came back.
