CAT 8 Network cable

Ok so thats sort of parked this project. although its early stages and much more rerouting of cables to come to try and get a semblance of order round this tip (place).

Need to prepare for this mother board thats done me proud thanks @PhillipM for fitting into a new white (gaming case) for grandson.

He does not use many PC games currently, so no good splashing out on things he does not need.

But he will think its a custom built PC and it will be way quicker than what he already has. I have managed to get another new motherboard still with 32 gig of ram so hopefully that will see me through the next couple of years (if I last that long.

All my old workmates are dropping like flies currently, I dread going on our facebook group page.

Did you mean Cat6 or Cat6a? Cat6e isn't a thing. If its shielded then yes.
Although most of the times I've come across shielded/foiled cable in use which is ungrounded - because people think they need it, spec it and then don't install it properly.

My mistake it's just plain old Cat6 as in no "e". Though it is duct grade. No screen wire either.

this is my speed test. Too be honest I dont think its much better than before but it certainly feels more responsive. ( perhaps I want it to lol)

Long as it works that's the main thing.

You are unlikely to see much improvement in internet speeds as the bottleneck is almost always the router or the connection itself. Even original cat5 (not the e) is still not going to limit most internet connections. The day we see 10gb fibre to every house and cat6 being a limitation.... well I doubt I'll be around to worry, put it that way!

I must admit I've never, ever grounded any Cat cable like this. Done plenty of screened cable on motors and inverters mind by twisting the braid, sleeving with a bit of green and sticking a ring crimp on.

What's the best way to ground Cat-6e then? Some sort of clamp?

Shielded cat cabling wall sockets and panels that I've used have a metal clamp thats grounded to hold the wire firm once its kroned in, and you strip back the outermost insulation on one end of the run so it both mechanically grips the cable and grounds the shelding on the cabling. You have to buy different wall sockets, plug shells and krone panels anyway because its fatter than normal cat5 and wont even push into normal shells to crimp. With ftp (foil twisted pair) you cant really twist it into something you can put a normal crimped connector onto.
