If that big bench was mine, I would put two decent size wheels on it and a pivoting lifting point for the pallet truck so you can move it like an articulated lorry. I did this with a car that had no front axle, I could move it anywhere on my own easily and put it places I would not be able to drive into.

I remember putting castors on my work bench so I could move it around...it didn't work out the way I wanted and I just gave up.

The castors I bought just weren't up to the job....they claimed to be but they weren't!

I once planned to make a set of wheel dollies, rather than shell out cashola for proper ones. Until I realised the cheapest castors that were up to the job cost more than buying ready made dollies from Machine Mart.

Back then, 2006, they were £30 a pair, but I sold them to a guy when we moved countries, charged him what it would cost to replace them back in the UK. £45 now they are, but still cheaper than buying 8 steel castors.

A braked one on each corner, non-braked half way along each outer edge and a non braked in the centre on a reinforcing bar about a third of the way in from each end. The bench is on a flat concrete floor and moves around perfectly.

Initially I thought I had made a mistake -I took the top and cabinets off so I could turn the base over and put the castors on - when I laid it back on its wheels it was very 'skiddy' with the brakes on and moved easily.... however, when the weight of the filing cabinets and the top was back on it, it stays perfectly still with the brakes on and moves very smoothly when I want it to move.

It seems a perfect height for me too. I can even wheel it under the car ramp if I need extra workbench space when under there but the ramps themselves usually suffice for that. Its going to be a handy work bench this! I can see me wanting some hung electrical outlets where it will be commonly used so that I can plug tools in around the workshed but without having cable trailing all over the floors!

Next job is more shelves under the static work benches!

I have a workbench in my garage and instead of using the generic castors, I purchased special workbench castors made by GBL

They work great, they help elevate my workbench by pressing the pedal and I can move my workbench anywhere I want, and then you just release the pedal and it will not budge a mm.

I also purchased their 150mm for my welding table that weighs about 1100kgs

I have a pallet truck I got from the scrapyard for a tenner. It has a capacity of 2 ton. It will move any bench in my garage. They come up for sale quite often. It may be worth looking on marketplace etc. for one.
