castolin eutectic powermax 2 caddy

Hey all,
I have a castolin eutectic powermax 2 caddy inverter welder and its broke.I was welding(arc)with it last week and it was working fine,turned it on today and the fan keeps cutting out.I done a few minutes welding and it did,nt heat up but me thinks it will.I have the welder 4 years and the fan has always stayed on continuously till now,does anyone know what the problem is cos im at a loss

I'd check the fan wasn't obstructed with something and was free to turn.

I'd disconnect it and reconnect it and see if it was down to a loose plug connection. It very likely plugs into the circuit board for its supply.

I'd take it out and look at the wiring and make sure it was sound, no missing insulation or such.

I'd look at the voltage on the fan (probably 12V) and hook it up to a suitable power source, a bench supply or car battery and leave it running. If it stops after a few minutes, it's a new fan.

More than these simple things and you're looking at delving into the circuitry of the inverter. Usually if the soft start circuit relay clicks in and you can weld properly the fan should work because they are run from the same supply. It could be a 240V fan run off the mains.

I certainly wouldn't weld with it with no fan running if the fan usually runs all he time. It's asking for trouble.

Opened the welder up today and saw the problem straight away.A wire coming from the fan was badly corroded so i cut it back and reconnected it.The welders working 100%,thanks for the advise PTvor
