Has anyone got experience running this wire?

It's a nickel matrix with iron, manganese and spheroidal graphite.

Struggling to get a decent arc condition, spatter aplenty.

I've tried various voltage ranges, various levels of inductance.

More wire helps but due to cast iron part i'm trying to keep dilution and heat input to a minimum. 5.5m/min is already up around 150-160A.

@Petros55 maybe you've had a go with it?

The brochure posted didn't list any gas.
Does it require a special mix or straight CO2 ?

Argoshield Universal

Aware that the data sheet says 18% which would be argoshield heavy, however I think in this application Universal will give less spatter and also i don't want too much penetration, as i'm carrying out a overlay/buildup operation which will then be machined back to 20 thou thick

Unfortunately all the technical guys at castolin have now left. They haven't brought anyone new on.

I spoke to the UK managing director on friday and he said someone will be in touch tuesday but i haven't got a clue who. Usually all their technical questions now have to be relayed back to france or germany.

@Brad93, we asked our colleagues and we got this recommendations for Arc Condition and spatter issues:

Voltage and Inductance Adjustments:

• Ensure you are within the recommended voltage range (19-24V) and adjust inductance settings to stabilize the arc.

Wire Feed Speed:

• You mentioned using 5.5m/min at 150-160A. This is within the recommended current range. However, fine-tuning the wire feed speed might help in achieving a more stable arc.

Shielding Gas:

• Ensure you are using the recommended shielding gas mixture (82% Ar, 18% CO2) with a flow rate of 16 l/min.

Torch Angle:

• Adjust the torch angle to 70-80° for flat/down hand joining and 60-70° for fillet and corner welding to improve bead formation and reduce spatter.

Heat Input:

• To minimize heat input and dilution, consider using pulsed arc technology if available. This can significantly improve semi-automatic welding productivity and reduce spatter.

If these adjustments do not resolve the issue, it may be beneficial to consult with a Castolin Eutectic application specialist for further optimization of your welding parameters.
