For that job unless you have the ability to get it very very very hot and keep it that way and cool it afterwards very slowly then tig is not the right process.correct process with it comes to welding Cast Iron..
I think your on the money maker with Ni sticks. I wouldn't touch the job personally but if I had to I'd shallow prep it (enough for 1 run to go just over flush) and run in with mma. I'd allow each short run to cool and peen the welds fully directly after application to stress relief.I've got some O/A rods and some stick rods for cast iron if they'd be of any use?
