Can i infer from the question that you have different rules for either, and, as you've mentioned that you had to keep quiet about the tools....

Im wanting to build a workbench - its for printing, rather than welding though, so will have a timber top.

My friend has a set of ends, kind of like these, sitting in his yard, which, unfortunately (for me) he does not want to part with -

I had a brief look on ebay, but all i could find were garden benches. Are the above the type of thing that i can still find to use, or are they all in peoples kitchens by now?

Any ideas where to look? Or even what search terms to use - like i say, all i could find on ebay were garden benches!

I have been in this place....when down there holidaying....she dragged me away .....getting it home would have been a nightmare!

Theyre the type of thing, although i think a bench may be better with a wider top surface. I know it would be possible with those though - if they were next door, id give them more thought!

Plenty of old lathes had legs like that, buy an old clunker sell it for scrap or parts & keep the legs.

You could do a sketch or draw then in autocad and get them water jet cut out and then weld on a flat bar edge.

Id rather old, but, yeah, lots of possibilities, but im in no rush - if i keep an eye on ebay somthing will turn up without too much effort.

Just purchased a set of the sewing machine ends -

Like i said before, theyre not spot on what im after, but the price was right (£25 + £15 delivery) so i can at least get an idea of what im up to with them, and maybe something nicer will come along later.

I wonder if they will fit in my 45 gallon electrolysis drum.... Not that cast really needs it, but id rather pressure wash than wire brush!

They ought to, even if it means doing them in sections, turning after each area [even if it means doing quarter at a time].

You'll need to ensure they well braced too, as all the rigidity would have come from the original cross pieces and top.

I slipped into the place near Dunster on Friday they had a set of cast iron end. Similar to a sewing machine table for £50.

Best to have them sand blasted, it's what I did with mine. Any broken bits are easily repaired, again I've got an oxy propane set up and used that to braze the repairs. Now that it's painted I can see the repairs. Fitted with a granite top to make a pastry table for the kitchen. There's a thread on it somewhere on the forum
