Afternoon Folks,
Previously I have been advised here that aluminium bike frames will need pwht if I modify them and weld in new sections.
My next question is related in that I am pondering ways to mount my motor to the bottom bracket and it appears to be a cast aluminium part (could be wrong and it's just billet. This is the part https://www.westbrookcycles.co.uk/gt-bicycles-fury-bottom-bracket-link-p354833).
Now if I end up welding (the simplest option I think) a bracket that will act as a support which will mostly function as a support to stop the motor from dropping down under gravity, supporting about 4kg max. and mildly assist with lateral flexion resistance...will that bottom bracket need heat treating post welding and does cast aluminium in general need pwht?
I'll be welding 7/8mm aluminium plate to it for the brackets.
Thanks for any help folks.
P.S. I am only about one month away from completing my level 2 C&G Welding qualification and all pieces are passed to date with just one left to go and then as much practice as I can fit in the remaining sessions.
