Cast Ally polishing issues.

Just a quick question:

What are those hand polishers called that look like a straight drill or a large multitool. That could come in handy for awkward places.

Was watching Wheeler Dealers last night, there was a guy doing Ally Polishing for a living, he done some wheels and on TV you could still see pits after he done the job so in person I would have thought I would see them allot more, with mine camera wont pick up the imperfections only just in person so think I am happy. Just picky with my own stuff I guess.

Not a flexi shat much bigger than that, it is it's own tool and motor, Looks like a big drill just a straight one for doing awkward jobs getting into wheels and stuff, can be used instead of a bench/fixed polisher.

Been on ebay but because I do not know the name of it I cannot find one, would like to see how much they go for ( if it's in my budget ) ( or can afford one )

You can't always get the pits out in ally, if you try and get them out you generally uncover a lot more

Can get them air operated, got two.

Follow Langys advice, pitts will become more pronounced trying to mop polish them out. You may get away with altering direction and blending in.
The main times i used to get pitting or holes etc was when over polishing. Its all to easy to over polish aluminiums, so just preparation and a lick with the mops and soaps.

Hate mop polishing.
If your up this way Busa you can have this English Viceroy 10" pedestal ex school and 3hp motor.

They dont make things today like they used to.
Air operated.
Limited to 1/4" shank tools though

What about the Bosch long nose die grinders? You can use them with polishing attachments.

I was listening about chasing pits, glad of the advice as it sure does help, what I was getting at was seeing someone else work who does it for a living and even they are getting them so what I am doing is actuarially quite good, his you could see on tv but a photo cannot seem to bring mine up so it was me just being picky about my own work.

I found what I was looking for in the end, a fair bit out of my price range but would be good for getting in awkward places, here is what I was looking for:

Anyhow back to today, got my swingarm and the curves and contour are a real nightmare to get sanded down before I get on with the mop, over 20 years of grazes, pits and original sand casting to flatten, the Orbital is to big to get in every where, thinking of getting a mini angle sanding/grinding tool, now I can see some of the downfalls of polishing, sore fingers from all that sanding by hand with still a bit more to do. When I see the end result I'm sure I will be grinning ear to ear.

Polisher I knew, I shared a unit with, called it a hand motor.
I found them on ebay listed as straight grinders. I was going to get a little one. I already have a large one;-)

u cant use it much theres no crap and filth up the back wall from the mop or the grinding wheel and if its not bolted down it will push over easily

How about a B&D Powerfile(13x451mm belts) or a Makita filing sander
(533mm belts & widths 9mm,13mm,or 30mm).

Yeah that is a big problem, I clean up and blow it off with a line a lot, I like to keep my workshop as clean as possible,

Similar style to mine but with 10" mops spinning at 6000rpm in reverse = just hang on to the job, worst case it skates. Only for large items, never see them again otherwise.
Dragged the thing in about 10 yr ago, still got crap up the walls and its had a few wire brushes over it.
