Eventually made a pair of shims for my bike gearbox, went to
the local heat treatment place and found now they only do vacuum heat treatment. Anyone know of anywhere in the Crawley area that does Case hardening.
Try doing a search on here for Kasenite. Its a powder that the heated items are placed in which case hardens. We have used it a long time ago. Gives professional results.
I want them cased 1/2 mm or more and don't want to experiment, well didn't want to. I think you might have to hold the part at high temp for some hours with Kasenite.
I had no idea, I have had fabricated adapter plates normalised by him and EN24 parts thru hardened, I assumed if you heat treated stuff you did it all.
Unfortunately Graff heat treaters have been very badly hit over the years to the point where its very hard to make anything and get it treated in a cost effective way. The last one in this area was cray valley. The health and safety put a finish to them some 5 years ago. In Kent we have no one that i know of anymore. Ridiculous isn't it?
kasenit will not do what you want, you are looking for a max case depth which is typically 1.5 mm. Treatments like kasenit will only do a few thou or so at a time, that being every time you treat the part, so it is literally on the surface. You can keep repeating the process to get it deeper, you wont get the depth you are after. The big down side to kasenit is you will have a very poor surface finish indeed, really depends on the part if that's acceptable or not.
Try a search on yell.com for heat treatments, Kent/Essex/surrey. It does give a few returns. Best i can offer, sorry.
Yes a place called Tee heat treatments i think, formerly Kent heat treatments. Tee were part of a national group with outlets all through the UK. I think the whole lot has gone bust now. They have been gone for donkeys years now graff. Trinity trading est, been gone for a min of 7 years at a guess.
Last time I had batch of castings was a year ago. so there must be somewhere else in Sittingbourne. Essex is a bit far, I could include a trip to see my mate in Westcliffe though. Just checked and thats going to be 127 miles. Going to be some expensive spacer.
There is a big casting place in sittingbourne, they do a lot of high end stuff like investment and lost wax, ally only as far as i know. I would expect the size of them to have their own ovens. Could it be those people? On the entrance to the Eurolink ind est if my memory serves me correctly.
There is no one that commercially takes on heat treatment in kent that i can find. There is probably a few firms that do their own due to having to, as there is none left in this area.
Graff, not sure if this is any use to you now. Doing some research for another thread i found these guys again. Looks like that have a plant contained in delphi diesel systems in gillingham.
Looks good, but a bit too business like for me;-)
I will have to drive up to Walton.
My ali casting heat treating was done for the foundry,
White Eagle in Hurstpierpoint.
