Carver clamp restoration?

Ayup guys just bought a 300mm carver clamp from evil bay and its in resonable nick, few weld blobs which i can get rid of, hiwever where it screws into shaft its worn in places lile alot do. can i weld these up and sand flat or will it cause issues?

Its just on the spine of it i guess, works fine but just curious if i could tart it up abit

I would have thought that would warp it just exactly in the manner you wish it wouldn't.

Might be better to heat the entire thing as hot as you dare then weld it or ideally, braze it.

you could run a sanding disc along it !
what condition is the end of the screw that contacts it is it mushroomed

Leave it alone if it works. I have some worse that that. If you weld it it will banana backwards - they will weld but I think they do have some form of surface hardness. You will ruin it if you weld it.

If it bothers you that much, you could glue a strip of stainless or some such along the length. There's a whole range of incredible modern adhesives. That would be a good test for them.
