Careful What You Feed Henry!

My Mum mentioned that the hoover in our church had poor suction, all the people on the cleaning rota brought in their own to do the cleaning. Knowing that it was a Numatic Henry I was surprised so I brought it home to have a look.

First thing I noticed was the hard lumps in the bag, which turned out to be cement! Further investigation found cement deposits at every joint in the hose & the tube elbow was blocked halfway across!

Obviously some lazy builder had been using it to tidy up after himself!

The hose was easy to clean but it was well stuck inside the tube. I ended up heating the tube with a blowlamp & gently tapping which moved most of it, a rotary wire brush got the rest.

Clean & shiny inside, outside not so much.

Got busy with the metal polish & had it all shiny again.

This is what came out, it's going in a bag & will be produced at the next church meeting!

So don't feed your Henry cement, it will give him constipation!

I remember when I was digging out some old concrete and dirt my wet and dry vacuum kept blocking..... Im not OCD, its just easier to use a vacuum that your fingers.

I admit I sucked up semi dried concrete remains with an old Lidl Parkside vacuum cleaner, it soon solidified on the walls of the hose but I was able to revive it.

I've got one of those aldi ash can things. They're fairly useless, so I wouldn't reccomend then in anything other than concept, but it does mean you can suck up pretty much anything.

Is yours one with a motor, or just a secondary can that you run inline?

Mine is the latter. Its good in concept, but the hose falls off all the time, is too ridgid, and the device leaks in air elsewhere.

I'd fix it if I used it enough for it to get to the top of the list of jobs....

I've got one of the Lidl ash vacuums in the shed. Seems weird having the motor on the inside of the unit, but makes it a bit quieter than they usually are. Only small too, and hose length is short, but has pretty good suction. Takes standard bags too, though non are supplied with it. The metal hose is more flexible than they generally are on those types of thing as well. Seems a decent enough unit, but time will tell.

Currently got henry attached to the wall sander.

Not sure how the dust is passing the bag. Will give that a clean out with the Dyson when the wife is not looking.
