Care to comment?

Could anybody have a look at these welds please and let me know how they rate?

Material is 2" box section with 5mm wall thicknes.

The material around the welds was spotless before welding, I just haven't cleaned the weld afterwards.

They look really good!
Much of a longer run on that vertical down would have ended in a 'snotter' though, you can just see it beginning to form into a blob.

Still worthy of a round of applause though.

Portamig 215, can't believe the difference a "proper" machine makes.

By the way I know it was light hearted but I was not showing off, I thought people would say the welds were too tall or something like that, either way most of what I have learned is from this EXCELLENT forum!

It most definitely was light-hearted Mick, there is absolutely nothing wrong with those, you should quite rightly be proud of welds that look like that .

Not bad mick,turn the juice up a bit and move quicker for better penetration,the shinier the weld the better

Looks good Mick, perhaps a notch more heat on the flat ones, and a notch less on the downhill. Im guessing you used teh same setting for both?

The box doesnt look as thick as 5mm though

Yes I used the same voltage settings on both the horizontal and vertical, just changed the wire feed rate.

The box is 5mm thick, well it is according to my vernier... made in china

Completed the rest of the frame today and changed the voltage to suit, verticals were much better thanks, then tried overhead.

Found it ok if welding into a 90 but a bit of a 'mare on a but joint, 1st try resulted in a fecking mess, 2nd quite a porous weld but after that they got better.

Couldn't get it to look as good as the other welds though, struggled to strike a balance between blowing holes and having weld falling down, have a nice hole in the cover of my esab at least I can replace that.
