I was reading 'the other' thread and thought a general discussion about firing the stove might be interesting without distracting 'the other' thread :-)
For sure firing a stove isn't as simple as piling logs in and applying a match so I thought a thread like this might be interesting to share techniques.

Its an absolute fact that you can load a stove an infinite ( I suppose ) number of ways and sometimes the fire runs well, sometimes it trickles along.
Conventional wisdom seems to be coal bed needs air from below, wood needs air from above... thats pretty much how I do it, if I use the rocket stove technique ^^ this will be air from below which for sure will result in a more ferocious fire but in a multi fuel baffled stove I wonder if it will be a benefit.
