Card fraud and online banking!!!

Be on the look out if you use online banking!!!

Just went to check the bit of money I'd been saving up and someone's bought something with the lot from ASDA home delivery!!!

Best thing was it was authorised in Leeds at 06:15 last Thursday, when I was in bed in Poynton, Cheshire; starting work at 08:00!!!

Gits, its rife at the moment and scams.
I have just got my money back from a scam on a Nokia N98.

Thinking about the security side of this?

Why can't they use the cards as per normal but have a six digit code rather than the four ie those other two numbers will not be on the card,you have to remember them and put them in after the normal digits.

This way if the last two digits are wrong after three attempts the transaction fails and shuts down.

According to ASDA the majority of their customers have things delivered to addresses that aren't their own

They saw my side of the argument though when I asked about making a payment at 06:15 in the next county over the peak district!!!

My bank has put a fraud request in and recalled the transaction and stopped my card and online banking for now...
Apparently they can't contact ASDA, I have to...
So... I contacted ASDA and they said that my bank have to fill a fraud declaration form in and send it to them and the Police...

Blooming can of worms if you ask me, this happened before when they screwed a payment up, I had to do all the legwork...
Time to change bank I think...

The last time that's what the credit card company the payment was made to said to me, they didn't want to deal with me directly...
However, they were a good bunch and contacted my bank to confirm and set them straight...

Still, I did a bit more looking into it...
Whilst the money is in my account it's classed as mine, if I withdraw it from a cash point it's mine...
However, if a payment is processed to another company or bank, etc, the payment leaves my account, goes to my bank whereby it becomes theirs, then transfers from them to the other bank or account; at which point the transaction becomes theirs to deal with and administer...

Therefore, I shouldn't have had to make any phone calls as it's not my problem...

I think this is the last straw with them to be fair...
They've made a load of changes recently that take the michael out of their customers as well...

Oh that would be too easy. And why don't they have photos on them as well. That would stop 100% of face to face fraud

By "the 4 digit code" do you mean the PIN number or the last four digits of the 16 difit code? The PIN isn't (shouldn't be) on the card anyway.

Bill the ***** for any time you need to spend sorting this out................and bear in mind they charge you £30 for a pro-forma letter, and charge accordingly.

Sadly without a solicitor and court action they just laugh at you...

That would cost more than the time it took me to do the work...

That experiment was tried a few years ago by some outfit like Watchdog. They had a photo of a monkey on it and virtually nobody noticed.

The PIN isn't (shouldn't be) on the card anyway.

As far as I know, the info about your PIN is held on the chip / stripe, therefore that data is available.

The PIN isn't, an encrypted form is held on a central computer, when you type it in it sends the cards information and encrypts what you type in and compares it against what's stored on the computer for the card...

Yeah guys I mean the pin numbers,basically you slot it in the card reader,it reads it and then ask for the 4 digit pin number and another two numbers which are not on the card, but only the card holder knows those two last digits in memory or on his/her person.

As above, the PIN is not stored on the card.

What would be more secure, would be asking for parts of a pin number, rather than the whole thing, or asking for it in a sequence, that way you'd have to see the screen, as well as the keys, to gather information on someone else's pin.
