Carbon fibre, anyone?

Made it out of mild steel in the end. Cut up an old grass collecting box from our old ride-on, flapwheeled the old paint and rust off, cut and filed to shape, then finished with a gentle planishing to straighten the edges. Patient reports significant improvement in mobility without pain, so I’ve earned a beer.

Fair play to you. I looked at the dedicated carbon fibre insole and if you just bought a flat sheet of carbon fibre, big enough to cut two insoles out it is about £15 on ebay so £40-odd quid for one?

Get some mountain bike shoes, they have a stiff sole.
