I avoided posting. I've been there with a car restoration. Sods law for car restorations says that you work for months, then when you finally get the thing on the road some git runs into the back of you and writes the thing off.

That took me 3 days, but you've broken my record posting the crash within 12 hours of the restoration photos. It's a real shame.

very sorry but my pants may never be the same again. it is amazing that with said design floor it hung around long enough for you to own it. tis a shame, i hate the things but if you put work in then its a pity .good luck on the next one!!!

That is gutting, shame after you spent time and effort getting it sorted. Really sorry for you!

I have no confidence in breakaway cables, the ones I have had just rust or fray at the ends and snap. I tested mine by standing on the cable to see if it activates the hand brake, before it snaps.
I stuck a chain on after the last one snapped as I would rather the back of the car gets trashed rather than the boat and trailer caused someone else harm.

Really I guess you were lucky as it could have been far worse.

Duh!!!! Fair play woody! Busted!

I had a simular incident with a load of lime that i was delivering to a friend. I had an Ifor tipper with a little too much lime in it Now i reliously use a chain and a break cable. Still havent replaced the farmers hedge yet. Job for a not so busy day!

I'm gutted for you - I had a 1946 Riley wrecked driving home from passing the MOT after a couple of years off the road.

Just a quick point, would a caravan of that age have a 2 inch rather tha 50mm hitch?

It deffo had a 50mm hitch

Still haven't had any luck finding a replacment. There was one in the local scrappers, the guy didn't know what was happening with it but said I could have it for £50, I said aye I'll be back tomorrow as I've got deliveries to do today, but somebody else took it, don't think they even gave the scrappy any money!

Tried on the local freecycle but most of them are stuck up so and so's, had to sign up with a new id (they wont let me post on my old one) but still took them days to approve it and no replys..
Just the other day someone advertisied the insides of a caravan (fridge etc), I asked what was happening with the shell as I wanted one and he said he was scrapping it to make a trailer

Couldn't you do a deal with your old chassis? Save him a lot of work.
