Caravan stand for supporting car?

I need to support my car (project) in about 8 places so I can carry out under body repairs. I was wondering if caravan stands would be okay as they can be adjusted exactly - unlike axle stands. My car is totally stripped so it's weight should be 3/4 ton or less.

looking at the stands you could make some out of old ACROW Props cut them in half or even in three would do you would have to make the base and the tops

Been looking at them and they take 2000kg - only £9 each as well! Think I'll order some tomorrow...

at £9 price is OK but max hight is 24ins bit low for working on underneath be either half laying or kneeling sitting etc that's what you have to think about you need to be comfortable welding not in a awkward position bad enough under a motor welding you would be better making a car roller to get it on it's side

The Pics I've Been Looking At Had No Capacity Listed With Then And They Looked A "Bit Home Made" So Be Careful - But An Idea Worth Pursuing As Gives Descent Height To Save Bending Over For Resto Work.

On their website it gives a loading of 2000Kg each. I can't lift the car higher than 700mm anyhow as the ceiling is low - I think it will be adequate for what I want. I will let you how well it works...

Thankyou for identifying the axle stands I've been using for years! I'd often wondered where they'd come from as they looked a bit homemade.

No problems with them supporting 1.5T cars.

I think they look perfect for the job as each individual one can be adjusted so I should be able to get the car exactly level. Dedicated car axle stands (which aren't adustable) of the same size cost around £35 each. Even if these static caravan stands are low quality - eight of them supporting around 0.5 ton will be more than adequate.

They are useful in that you can screw them up, taking some weight off the jack, before releasing the jack. Using regular stands usually involves dropping the car onto the stands, which is generally disagreeable to me.

Used heavy duty stands like that when i was a bus mechanic...with the screw-top, and a bit bigger obviously. Only thing that would put me off is would 6" be enough to play with(oooooh matron)...on the adjustment?

Sorry about the rubbish photo - this is the car on six of the stands (I bought 8), works well - spreads out the load and allow me to take the front suspension apart.
