car window leak..old style rubber fitting

my tailgate glass is letting in a bit of water , i had the glass out in the summer and the metal is sound and the rubber is good condition

ive got a tin of red rubber grease ..and a tube of the non hardening window caulking

any suggestions on whats the best one to try? im thinking maybe the grease ?

window caulking not grease you need to pull the finisher out then caulk the window body side and glass side then replace the finisher wipe off excess leave for a week or two then clean off excess again

I would use the correct window sealant, black and sticky

what was making me wonder ..it goes all hard n poop after a while ,although i guess its sold for that job

Silly question may be but you are sure that it's leaking round the glass and not round the tailgate itself?

yep its coming in through the rubber

I had that with a Mini and I removed the screen and cleaned out the grooves in the rubber on the bodywork and glass side then refitted it and it stopped the leak without any resorting to goo or grease.

The correct sealer doesn't go hard, thats why its good.

there was some stuff ithink it was called leak stop it was in like a small oil can with a spout on and u didnt have to remove rubber it was good stuff but i havent seen any for ages,if you can still get it i would recomend it as i used it for older cars and it worked.
