Car wheel paint

I'm getting my Renaults working and having 10 steel wheels shot blasted before fitting new tyres. I want to paint in the normal silver colour. What sort of paint system would you use for them these days? I've had success with a primer and rattle can wheel paint in the past. I've got a compressor and spraygun but only a normal paint mask not air fed and I'll be working outside.

Epoxy primer e.g lechler 29107 fast, Normal basecoat from a car paint shop then HMG nisocoat 2 clear coat.
Isocyanate free with proper 2k performance

Bear in mind, if you're going to the expense of blasting and painting them, a non 2k air dried system is going to struggle with the demands of a wheel and as such will have to be repainted fairly frequently. I hate people who don't answer the question on a forum so to answer your question, I would favour synthetic coach enamel over celly or rattle cans but get a price on powder coating as well. I work as a pro classic restorer, and my advice to all my clients re: wheels is powder coat.

Thanks all. Epoxy primer has to be the best plan in this day and age. My blast company shut down so going to see a guy locally who blasts and turns out he also paints. I'll see what he has to offer as he'll be a lot better set up than me.

I've finished fitting the new chassis to the van but haven't gone all that mad with paint finishes elsewhere.

I'm not a fan of powdercoat as it adds too much thickness, maybe not so much of a problem for car wheels. My standard for wheels is Wurth silver (same colour as Audi/BMW/Benz use) followed by Spraymax or

ProXL rattle can 2K. These were done 4years ago, all weather use, no sign of flaking or marking:

I now always change them myself for just that reason.

You obviously have way more experience than me, but powder coating steel that's going to be in a harsh / wet environment?

I can understand alloy wheels, but a few chips on powder and it's going to start rusting out behind and retain water and delaminate.

100% epoxy prime ,,,maybe im lazy but i grabbed some single layer 2k mettalic silver , saves the 2 stage process

I ended up just dropping the wheels off at the shotblaster and asked him to do the whole job. He is using epoxy primer and 2K. I think I'd be happy with epoxy and 1K as those spray cans last really well on a good primer.

The tyres arrived at the tyre shop. That whole pile of them is for me and the whole thing is expensive.

Your saving grace is they are under 17” saves a load of money with smaller wheels
