I seem to remember 20 odd years ago we use to disconnect battery on the vehicle before commencing welding does this rue still apply or were we just being over cautious?
i dont dare not undo it , as said people dont have a problem , but then i cant afford to be without a car if the ecu poops itself , so on a car that takes no reprogramming etc why not
correct power will always find the shortest route and be a circuit . it can hardly damage something that isn't in the circuitDepends where you put the earth, should always put it next to the job and there will be no issues.
found this online that tries to explain it and somewhere in the distant past when i was training as an auto spark i remember something very similarI never disconnect the battery on any cars with ECUs onl do it on older cars. Never had a component fail after welding, do dozens of weld repairs a year. As said make sure there's no possibility of any electronic components becoming part of the path of electricity.
