That was my thought too. It must be ~20 years ago since I tried it, and it gave a fantastic finish, but the polishing cloth ended up covered in paint because it's actually part cutting compound, so that's not something you want to use regularly.

I'm devotee of all things from the Meguiar range now; not the cheapest, but very good products.

Wash her with a good shampoo that doesn't strip the wax. Remove the tar and clay bar her till she feels like glass. Hard to beat a good wax like collinite 476, should last 6 months. I've heard fusso is good too but haven't tried it.

Pressure wash, then shampoo, using a bucket of clean water to wash cr*p off the sponge. G3 clay mitt will leave the paint super smooth. If you've got a black car, Poor Boys Black Hole Glaze is excellent at filling swirls and small scratches.

Carparts4less have some polishes and waxes at decent prices and I think it's free delivery at £15.

I don't do that any more.

When I bought the lexus, it was a dark charcoal colour.

I spent 5 hours clay bar-ing, polishing, and waxing it.
It *sparkled* - and was a beautiful shade of blue, with mica highlights.

MrsEgg came out and said: "That looks nice, we'll get it done professionally next time".

get great results with just Step 3 - Deep Crystal Carnauba Wax Liquid but with a machine polisher and lambs wool mop

but you really need a machine polisher for the best results (with an adjustable RPM),

ie G3 first, TFR, then the wax/buff

I spend much more time with a hose spraying underneath, especially the rear wheel arches, the spring platforms and around the petrol filler pipe.

i buy cars that are not much more than scrap price, with as long an MOT as possible on them. i invest 40 quid in a new MOT, and make sure i have enough for a replacement in the bank if it fails on something uneconomic. Cosmetics are a LONG way down the list

If you enjoy car cleaning it's not a pain to do. I would rather clean the car than do house cleaning. The only bit I don't like is putting all the gear away.
