Thanks guys
The Ranger, and probably many cars now, comes with a basic GSM tracker. I have a phone app that can tell me where the car is. It is susceptible to being blocked by a GPS and/or GSM jammers or being put into a shipping container. I have a Tracker plant on the bobcat and it adds VHF which means it can be located in shipping containers or in an underground car park. There are car versions, various levels of tools etc. but approx £360 for fitting then £180 per year subscription https://www.tracker.co.uk/products/monitor. The bobcat tracker plant version costs 250 per year, but I save about £150 on NFU plant insurance so I thought it was worth it.
I used to have a secret fuel pump cut off switch on my defender 90. That worked quite well until the dog's tail hit the switch while I was going down the M65
I'll ask my broker which of the various deterrents and/or trackers lower the insurance and by how much, that way they may pay for themselves. I'm favouring a bloody great post and eventually, when I have some cash, some electric gates.
I wouldn't confront intruders if an alarm went off, just call the police. If I could get through and if they can be bothered to respond. We got burgled once while I was working away, probably about 18 years ago. The wife came back to find our ageing bull terrier wondering around outside, the guy was still in the house and ran out into the field when her car drove up. The coppers didn't turn up until the next day, I had to call a neighbour to go around and calm the wife. The burglar could have realised that the wife was on her own and come back, fortunately he was probably only a local scrote looking for fix money. The West York's police excuse was that they were dealing with a train load of drunks on their way back from Blackpool to Halifax and had to sober them up in Hebden Bridge. When I asked why they didn't call out Burnley police instead, which is even closer, no answer. Basically a different police force so it would mean paperwork.
Cheers
Andy
