hi,
im needing to weld up one of these to fix an exhaust, rust proof and then replace a clutch on my escort estate.
You have done a good job, i will go with the same size scaffold. Do you know what angle the tube is bent at? obviously slightly more than 90 degrees to keep it from tipping by the wind etc.. also is there a measurement for the length of the bend? as it covers quite allot of the scaffold length.
Il be doing this in the front garden, with a mattress to roll onto, i hope the wheel hub/bearings will be strong enough!

the bend is 90deg exact the radius is 600mm i think the lenght of the full bars were 2600mm but i think i went over whats needed

right ok, i have cut the two bars for the front one, once i have the other then il get them bent locally theres a place called tube bending international who do roll bars etc..
I am thinking of using new brake discs for the hub mount, or wheel spacers though it needs to be changeable for 3 or 5 stud wheels.

well the plate on mine thats welded to the frame is 250mm x 150mm
the one welded to the wheel centre is the same and the 4 x M16 bolts are 170 across and 100 up (centred)
im making some more with 4 stud ford hubs*as ive got a mk2 escort to roll soon - i'll pop some pics of that up too
*well im actually tring to find some pug ones as they fit fords and due to the smaller centre bore fords wont if pug so if i ever have a 205 1.9 gti to roll i'll be able to do that too

one more thing the plate on the bars is welded at 90deg to the floor (when the bars are upright) and the angle is on the other plate - that was so i could alter the angle for what ever vehicle the hub is made for

theres one on ebay at the moment, thought not quite as heavy duty as Transit man has made it.
Im having a thought about how im going to tip the car, i could just use a car jack in stages, though would prefer something that can lower it back down easier

An engine crane is a popular choice for rolling. A jack would be very long winded. I would have thought a crane would have her over in one lift.

not sure on the dia of the scaff bars - just standard whatever that is ???
the plates were about 8mm but anything from ¼" would be ok
ive actually just finished the ford/peugeot adapters now i'll put a pic on if i remember

the weakest part is the flex in the bend - the plates, especially as they are doubled up can be quite thin without a problem

for mine none - just made sure i rolled it away from the tank filler
i took the battery off thats all but it was only on its side for about 10 mins didnt loose anything

I rolled a Subaru Forrester last weekend! Very quick and easy... but not particularly cheap. $11k AUD is the quote!
