SNooper, most classic cars are from the 1960's or earlier because of their relative simplicity. Modern cars don't rust as much but they get scrapped due to the failure of complex and expensive systems of parts and faults that cannot be traced or if they are are uneconomic to repair, 2004 diesel Mondeos for example.todays cars will be the classics of todays children, just like music changes through the decades
Plus the inherent dullness and sameness of modern cars. Stuff from the 1960's was very characterful and different. Not so modern cars. Let's preserve what deserves to be preserved and let the disposable be disposed and re-cycled. After all, modern cars are designed to be re-cycled.
