LPG is still v big over here......had it a early 80's nissan 4x4 pick up...it'll hardly get u out of bed on gas.....

I don't think that's going to do him a lot of good if they are going to be closing half of them next year!
it would have to be something you could do independently. Trouble is I think it is quite a pain to have a tank installed at home.

That would be an expensive way of filling a car up. Normally it's done the other way around to fill the bottles cheaply!

yea your right tbh...this was at a time when my Asphalt wagons were going through 2 bottles aday and our gas was supplied by Mr Smith 15 bottles at a time

I looked briefly at this about 5years ago but saw the writing on the wall.
If you had lpg heating you could take a tap off the bottom or another possible way is to have an lpg tank installed but if I recall it has to be for your hot air ballon

We (a local group of farriers) talked about this at the start of last year when the shell sites dropped lpg. Plan was to all chip in for one just to secure our own supply but we also looked at selling it to others..
Pretty much every farrier in the country uses propane to run the mobile forge. The majority of us are using refillable tanks and filling from the lpg pumps.
As you are asking about a legit way here's what we found out..
Basically, if I have a lpg heating tank at home there is no law to stop me buying a pump/hose/etc and filling the tank in my van from that.
I'm only using it as a heating fuel in the van though. If I wanted to use it as a road fuel then I would have to pay the extra vat which is complicated.
I guess you could originally order the lpg delivery as road fuel and pay the correct vat on purchase but I've never looked into doing that.
One issue is having the tank at home, if you get one from a regular supplier (calor etc) then you will probably/certainly be breaking the account terms if you add your own take-off pump onto it.
A couple of the big suppliers did mention that they could/would supply pumps to domestic users but when we actually looked into that it all seemed to be legacy products that non of them actually ever installed.
You can buy your own tank rather than rent one from a supplier. Then you can do what you like. Fill prices are higher and availability/delivery times can be an issue. You will need all the proper paperwork for the tank to set up an account with a supplier. The tanks also have a test date and once that's expired they should stop filling it. I say "should" as this does not actually seem to happen!
If you only want to fill the car then lpg tanks are available, lpg skid tanks (self-contained/movable/ready to use) are about £5k from a proper supplier with a new 20yr test.
A lot of the companies that supply tanks are not interested/able to service domestic customers and they won't give a price without a site survey and they won't do a site survey at a house...
We spoke to various authorities about the regulations, basically, below 2500l, at home, for your own use, no problem. There are various requirements for installation location/mantainance/etc but nothing more complicated than having one installed for home heating.
Requirements do vary by local authorities though. Obviously the usual safe practices/duty of care stuff applies..
Adding a few other guys into the mix was also not really a problem if it was a syndicate/group buy/not for profit thing.
We were basically just told to give some consideration to the site and not to cause any nuisance by increasing traffic or running led floodlights 24/7.
We looked at retailing it as the majority of horse lorries & motor homes have it fitted but that was a whole extra level of hoops to jump...
As it stands at the moment, we haven't done any more about it.
Several of the guys had the space to site it and offered to pay the electricity bill for running the pump in exchange for the convenience of having it in the yard!
We haven't quite finished discussing payment and usage arrangements yet though!!
We haven't gone any further as we still have a few forecourt suppliers in our area, 2 of these are independent and after talking to them, they currently plan to keep selling it for the foreseeable future. They are currently often running out but this is due to supply issues, they both currently have plenty of demand. Also, they have the pumps in a location that is not suitable of ev charging points so that helps!
We are also talking to a local motorhome dealer. They are a pretty big business and are pretty keen to install a lpg point for retail. They have good access for horse boxes etc but the issue at the moment is they also have big steel gates that they like to lock at 5:30..
