Im old enough to remember when premiums went down every year as your no claims went up and you got a bit older
these days you just hope it hasnt gone up too much every year instead.
I did some playing on Compare the Meercat and the lowest quote without no claims discount is £246 (with a statement that I haven't claimed in 15 years) and the lowest with no claims discount is £192. So it does still make a difference after all. The start date didn't seem to make much difference so I can book an MOT tomorrow. I ended up buying insurance for £216 and they say they don't need a copy of the no claims.
The classic car policy wanted £400 to add it on so that was no good.
As Martin Lewis explained you almost always get better renewals from comparison sites because the insurers can give discounts through those that they cannot legally give directly without offering the same discounts to existing customers.
Also agreeing your renewal before you get into the last month definitely gets you a lower price.
