Car insurance claim or not.....what a headache

As with others, based on experience the insurance will just fold like a red hot marsbar rather than fight your corner.

I clouted a beemer a few years ago and the driver admitted fault at the scene. Copper turned up……. And turned out to be his sister in law. Only two in the car yet when the assessor turned up there were claims for whiplash for all 4 occupants and oddly the statement provided by the attending officer was completely contradictory to my recollection. Insurance co couldn’t give a toss about what I’m fairly sure would count as a conflict of interest, or the 2 extra people that had materialised and paid out. Cost me a fortune at renewal

I suspect the insurance co will make your wife pay it all back in the long run !
Mrs had a £2000 claim - some burk drove into the drivers door while she was sat in it , parked !! Then drove off !- insurance thieves took her £500 exess then upper her premiums . Robin b stards

Mrs Robo had similar, car hit her car while it was parked on the drive, she was in the house at the time, because the insurance co. couldn't find the other driver it was classed as her fault

I think you'll find that it was simply classed as a claim because the other driver was untraceable. Nothing to do with fault.

It actually came up on the following years renewal as an own fault accident/claim.

In general I don't think they do go up with a no fault accident. But we think they do because they go up anyway. Lol

They go up even if no fault. It’s an insurance statistic that if you’ve been in one accident, regardless of fault, you’re more likely to be in another, hence the increase in premium.

.........yup you pay in the short term by shelling out for repairs out of your own pocket trying to keep your nose and your record clean, or you pay in the medium to long term with increased premiums.....either way you pay

Mine hasn't the last 3 times. But that statistic is one sided.

In a lifetime a person is likely to be involved in 3 to 4 accidents in a lifetime.
So it stands to reason that once you have had 5 you are far less of a risk.

They really can't have it both ways.

a dash cam would refute any claim of the driver and therefore they would be no 50/50 by the insurance due to actual evidence

50/50 by insurance is old school nowadays its fact by the dash cam and no insurance can argue with factual evidence

My daughter hit a parked van, a month after getting her first car. Tiny dent in the van, but he claimed £3k+ for it. Daughter’s insurance paid it without a murmur.

She came up for renewal a couple of months ago and was expecting the worst, big increase, penalties etc etc. But no, her premium actually went down by a hundred quid or so. It’s only her second year of driving but her premium is less than £800 for the year, fully comp with breakdown. She is 23.

My car insurance with her as a named driver has gone up by £250 as she has an unresolved claim, I'm sure her own will as well when it's time for renewal.

You can claim that back if it's found in your favour.

Ugh, had similar recently too.
10 days back a 76 year old bloke rear ended our clio4 business estate I put a new engine in a few months back while my daughter was driving waiting to pull onto a roundabout and wife in the passenger seat. It had a damaged rear hatch that was repairable, bumper deformation panel, hatch trim, bumper and was leaking diesel after the accident and thats just what could be seen at a quick glance. The driver at first said it wasn't worth a claim and partly her fault for being hesistant so could he give 50e, then went on to claim she had reversed into him, except there was a witness who saw him slew round a parked car on approach, turn his head to shout at the people in the parked car while accelerating and drove straight into the back of them. It went the approved repair centre local and the insurance company was going to write it off for the damage sustained as it twisted the rear axle too besides the visible damage and give the average resale value for the mileage on the original reading on the odo and it was mint, new android 4g head unit, backup cam, one owner from 6 months old etc. My daughter had her driving test scheduled last week and was really shook up by it. Its in the bodyshop today after a robust argument with the assessor but no hit to my wifes insurance and his insurance company accepted the liability at 100% because of the situation and witness. And somehow my daughter has passed her test.

Over the years Ive come to the same conclusion as mick, people absolutely lie when they think they can get away with it, even sometimes when they cant. And its universal of nationality, location whatever. The foriegn plated car is probably back in spain by now and the driver thinking "I wonder if they can even get me over here" having had enough time to get out of the country without repocussions, plus you probably dont have a copy of his green card validating the insurance for the UK...

I used to deal with insurance assessors as part of a job in the UK, and my opinion of them hasnt improved over time also, but sometimes you have to stand your ground with them too even if proved that you are the victim...

If you cant get the other insurance company to acknowledge because of circumstances, you may be able to make a claim via the MIB

Just be careful that the other driver suddenly starts claiming for an injury from the accident. That will significantly increase the claim and will likely affect future premiums.
