As far as I'm aware there is no maximum but there is a requirement for them to have proper approval markings which I suspect the bigger wattage bulbs don't have.

I have them in my motorcycle and they're on all the time, no failures in about 3 years.
That's interesting, I got mine from a reputable supplier who happily replaced them but they stopped selling them as they had so many returns.

One of those things, someone else said the same earlier in the thread and I replied about having had one set for 3/years 30k miles commuting to a Nightshift job.
I'm always very careful not to touch the glass and get grubby prints on it which causes hotspots? Perhaps this is a cause?
I’m alway very careful when swapping bulbs and even clean them with an alcohol wipe if I accidentally touch them. It may well be that I’m not doing a regular commute to a fixed place. I am regularly driving for several hours in a day so that may well be a different duty cycle

Ive chucked a standard 55 watt in the disco today to replace one of the plus eleventy hundred percent brighter things that failed. It doesnt look any different, and its only for dipped beam so Im really not bothered. To be fair all these toyota raygo and nissan leaf thing drivers seem to manage to see just on the drls without even switching their headlights on 
The problem is they sell 100% brighter and 150% and 200%.
But all of them are listed as 55watt.
Unlike older bulbs that have two wattages listed.
Mine even has HID fitted on some apparently as when I put my reg number in I get a choice of two.
It's rather ironic that this thread cropped up and my son watched me reverse the car back after I had driven down the road thinking how bad the lights were that night.
He said did you know you drivers side low beam is out.....nope but it explains a lot.

I was thinking about this. For the same wattage and higher brightness they obviously have to burn hotter so can’t last as long. Of course the blue coatings make them look whiter also. I did notice that abd do 80 watt blue ones, and I have a pair of 100 watt ones with a blue and yellow coating that I took out of the disco, but of course going to higher wattage with a modern car you are into burning out the wiring and melting lenses and reflectors.The problem is they sell 100% brighter and 150% and 200%.
