Car half lifts? Recommendations / suitability?

For some reason their existence has passed me by until now...

This sort of thing. Seem to come in the usual range of "I'm not going near that" through to "I may yet die of natural causes".

I would prefer the latter.

...and id like it to lift landrovers, not sports cars.

Are they usable, or not to be touched?

Local garage had a 3t Bradbury that saw lots of use, they did swap it out for a 2 poster and sold the sissor lift to my BIL

I’ve been toying with getting one for years, it very much depends on what you want it for. It would suit my needs - wheels off and oil changes on my Morgan, but if you want to get the transmission out or get the exhaust off (on my car anyway), they’re hopeless. At my age, and with the mileage my car does, I’ve decided against one and am going to spend the money on paying my local garagiste to service it when needed, any cash left over will go on wine.

I’d narrowed the choice down to these two firms - I don’t think there’s much to choose between them:

Works like brand new getting rid as have a 2 poster coming Lifts transits customs no bother Very heavy will need a flat bed and a couple of people to lift it on can deliver but will be 50 pound...

Also i dont much like the idea of it rolling along the floor as it lifts, which, as i understand it, the fb one must do?

Sure. Which seems better, to me, than rolling across all the junk (gravel, rusted nuts, etc) that i always have on the floor. Id rather it sat on its own flat plate, than on a layer of unstable junk!

I've recommended it several times on here, I think its a decent bit of kit, solidly built . Its obviously Chinese but I've had a good experience with Automotec's customer service.
I also like the fact that although it has two cross braces between the lifts, they are fixed rather than the moving bar design a lot of them seem to use.
This means you don't have to keep the center area clear when moving the lift, and in fact you could plate over it you wanted, something I plan to do.

I've since modified the control box so I can lower the lift directly on to the mechanical locks, which was pretty easy to do in the end.

If you put a heavy car on it, you can certainly tell. It still copes fine and has sat with 1700kg for extended periods of time.
I'd imagine it would cope fine with a landrover (i've not tried), but I don't know I'd put much heavier on there.

But soon u'll need to work under stuff then ur knee's n back wont thank u...
Just get a used 2 poster lift....
