My TOM TOM has lifetime updates but it's pretty useless now to be honest.
For instance it still doesn't know that most of London is a 20mph limit, or where almost all the cycle only roads and changed priorities are, the speed camera database is appalling now and it can't even tell where the traffic jams are.
Pretty crap really!

Yep, crap! I've had a couple of TomToms the first one was probably 15 yrs ago, which was when I first alerted them of a glitch that caused it to think my house was in one place when leaving, but it directs me (and anyone else using a TomTom) to a place a few miles away when returning! All these years later it's still the same.

My TT 550 for the bike is the same, life time updates etc. But unfortunately TT stop supporting each model after a few years, so where does the lifetime deal come into it?

I paid £450 for the bloody thing, so I hope I get a decent life time out of it.

Our tom-toms had the same then we had emails saying they are not stopping it but no longer supporting it, and I think its pay so many pence per journey or per map usage so I gave up and now use Waze which I think is better than tom-tom and totally free.

John Deere (for sure but probably others) can / will disable the tractor remotely if you don’t keep up the finance repayments.

If Merc can do what the article says, I reckon they’ll be going down the JD route. No payee, no workee

Same for nearly all tractors & commercials vehicles made in the past few years. They wait until the vehicle is in a safe location then hit the stop button.

I had the e-mails for my original TomTom which was probably 7 or 8 years old, but I soldiered on using it until one day it said I was approaching an island, but the road layout had completely changed into a 3 lane dual carriageway with traffic lights so I decided it was time for a new one.

For some reason, some days, neither of my two Tomtoms, car and bike, will show fixed speed cameras. Sometimes it will go a couple of weeks, and then suddenly they are back again. That's without doing any updates or downloads.
Anybody else noticed this?

I tend to keep the bike one mounted full time as it's far easier to see my speed from it than the bike speedo.

I did not know about this technology until Gragson opened the thread. Somewhere amongst all of this there must be scope for massively improving anti-theft of cars. Especially as the crims are house breaking for the keys to steal modern cars.

It would maybe benefit insurance companies to sponser such things £££.

Don't forget although they pay out vast amounts of money in claims, they are a business and make plenty more! The higher you insurance the more they make...
