Car dismantling - how far can you go?

You may have seen this picture at some point in time:

All of those components could be brought indoors via means of a normal door for a person, all except the body shell and chassis. My question is, how far down can you get to the body shell and chassis? Is there any way of dismantling the chassis and bodyshell or is it all welded?

This conversation stems from another conversation I had with a friend, would it be possible to put a car inside a room, seemingly impossible to remove!

Built from scratch yes. Dismantled and reassembled though?

a proper chassis wouldnt come apart, but if you didnt have to get it round tight corners, ie just through a set of patio doors straight in it would be no issue. something like a landrover, the body can be broken down enough so that only the rear tub would require assistance in moving

As above land rover defender could be built in pieces, mr2 late age ones can be stripped down to sub structure. Bolt on 1/4'' and stuff.

We strip subaru''s at work and pretty much bare shell them.
Even cutting screens out for use on rally cars. But the shell is still a large item and would struggle to do.

As for kit cars that world would be completely differentm

Yeah my mate (armed with a Haynes manual) dismantled his Subaru Legacy, then realised he had gone too far. Sold it online to a guy with a low loader and six boxes of parts!

So, it seems there's no way other than physically cutting the chassis and rear bodyshell. Thanks for the input

What is the purpose of bringing it indoors and if built up what's the plan for getting it out?

It's more a 'could you do it?' rather than a practical purpose question. I don't have enough experience of cars to know how much they come apart. The car in question was an 80s Mazda 323 though.

Done something similar, started sanding a dining table inside as my parents wanted it restained, dust EVERYWHERE. On the plus side they gave me a workshop space afterwards

my house has got concrete floors, so for years I've been telling people that I'm going to remove the window and fit some french doors. that way I can rebuild my Triumph Herald in my house and drive it out when I've completed it. when the triumph herald was launched, they had one that was slightly modified so that it could be assembled on stage in a few minutes and driven off......this car was driven to and from events (the assembly starts at about 3m20s)

Your parents were obviously not as understanding as mine then, Bob. We had a downstairs room as a workshop, primarily for my father for woodwork. I then moved in with my radio gear and subsequently introduced bikes. No complaints, as far as I can remember, when I sprayed my Tiger Cub from cans. I also got away with doing bearing changes using the oven. A hot crankcase that's been degreased in Gunk smells of Gunk. So does the oven, the kitchen, the living room...

Friend of mine built this chopper in his flat, we had to take the forks off to get it down in the lift

If you go chopping up an 80s 323 just to see if you can I’ll be coming over there to pay you a visit! Leave them alone, they’re not hurting anyone and they’re an endangered species.
