Car. Cheap car!

Apparently (so I overheard a man in the pub say ) there was (maybe still is) a well-known bikers' rally near a small village that happened to have an MOT-licenced local garage.
So the beer-bellied bushy-bearded brigade would book their ratty old heap in for an MOT at the garage on the Saturday morning and ride to the rally using the MOT as an excuse if they get pulled.
Meanwhile they'd also booked an MOT on the Monday at their own local garage: this covered them for the return leg. Get home, cancel booking, shave beard, put beer-stained jeans in washer and go back to work as accountant.
Of course all this may have been someone's dream and we as responsible motorists couldn't possible condone such behaviour ...

It doesnt have to be nearest mot station, it has to be within a REASONABLE distance, and as straight a route as possible to the station, but WHAT IS a reasonable distance ?

I remember a story from when I lived in London of a group of students who had an old car which hadn't worked for years. At the end of the holidays, they'd ring the AA and say "We're broken down and need to get home to Oxford" and the AA man would turn up, put the car on his truck and give the three students a lift. At the end of term, they'd repeat the process and say "We're broken down and need to get home to Norwich (or wherever)"...
