nope ,,, no where near heavy enough ,, bus bar is what you need , spend thirty or forty quid now and you will never regret itFor the copper find an old immersion tank , ask a local plumber
Have you priced up all the panels you need, are you going to get them? I would if meWell a decent day of searching has brought up this in terms of repair panels. Full floor, all 3 sills etc.
Putting together all the stuff I’m going to need, cutting discs, general consumables etc. Any recommendations for top quality mig wire please? The best money can buy really. The last reel from the bay was variable with lots of spatter and poor feeding, well it was cheap (for a good reason I suspect) but it became clear that wire isn’t all created equal. I gave the welder a mini service today, cleaned, new torch liner, cleaned the feed rollers etc. Also ordered a load of steel tube to use as bracing if I end up doing the whole floor.
Off to the scrapyard tomorrow to see about some lumps of copper.

yes, the very same. Are they from Ex-Pressed Steel Panels?
This is a restoration to keep forever. After my last roll of wire off the bay of all evil I am never buying anything like that again. SG3 stuff welds so much smoother. And yes, panels come to £1200 ish, which is not too bad when I consider the time it will save making stuff up. My Bro said he wants it right, not rushed, not cheaply done, just as good as it can ever be.Whats the big
Have you priced up all the panels you need, are you going to get them? I would if me, if not, you're going to have source some sheet and fab them up
Why the want for the best wire if you're putting new panels in most of your welding can be plugs welds you've really no need for long runs and or the best wire, blimey i've stuck many a patch/panel on with cheap wire prep is the most important clean clean clean joint fit up and clamp
As for this want for a copper backing i hardly use it, maybe for butt welds on foil thin steel (fiat panda 4x4) or new panel onto old, this is all good if you have access to the back of the welded joint, and it needs to be held tight to that joint even then you should really do more than 20-25mm stitch(tac tac tac) then move on to another point, no way you're going to do full beads otherwise Mr distortion will raise its ugly head
Restoration for keeps or a patch up to sell on in a year or so?
1.6 is a good start for your practice but that shell will be more like 1.0 than 1.6!yes, the very same.
So the scrapyard trip didn't work. Apparently they can't sell me anything because I'm not a registered scrap metal dealer. The bloody world has gone bonkers.

The copper will help and I know it won't allow me to do huge runs in one go but it will help stop blow through. I'm practising now on some 1.6mm steel, all clean etc and it's not easy to get the fine setting between a cold weld blobbed on top and blowing through the steel. Thin stuff is not as forgiving as steel beams.
nope ,,, no where near heavy enough
And the replacement panels will be even thinner1.6 is a good start for your practice but that shell will be more like 1.0 than 1.6!
Good luck and don't forget pictures. We love pictures!
And the replacement panels will be even thinner
no the dirt and air gaps work like a double glazed window and stop it working as well as a big solid lump , think sort of lasagne and you get the ideaSurely it would be if repeatedly folded over on itself?[And I promise not to call you Shirley again
