i just receive a Elto Eltika welder, but cant start the arc, already connect the torch in the negative and the earth in the positive, it just works if the tungsten electrode touches the part to weld....
There's some useful advice on starting the arc with a scratch start TIG in this thread. I'd get the thing going with advice from there and see if it welds OK before buying a different TIG.
Sounds like lift tig.
Touch the tungsten then lift it away to start the arc.
Perfectly adequate for a lot of jobs, although can be a touch tricky to use in awkwark positions and for tacking delicate stuff together.
From my experience I would like to suggest that if it is possible (assuming that the welder is new), try to change it to a model that includes an integral build in HF unit. it is worth the additional cost. dont mess with "add ons" that you are not absulotly sure that will fit, specially with an HF unit that might "project back" high frequecy to the elctronic inverter circuits, that might cause serious damage, which of coaurse wont be coverd by the warrenty. besides, adding a bulky unit to the welder it is not much of a comfort. if you are welding tig only every once in a while, try to "scratch start" it, if it is for frequent use, try to change it, since it makes a great difference.
good luck
