Can you re-thread a chain block?

I got a 1 and a half ton one from where I worked. it was hung up in the garage and had been for donkeys years the garage got demolished and it went in the skip it hardly hit the bottom and I fished it out it must be about 70 years old . I use it to lift machines and heavy gear in and out of my trailer

Decent brand name chain blocks do surface on Ebay and the likes for next to nothing, replaced my old one ( brake was knacked) with a brand new in the box yale two ton on a trolley and I think it was around £60. New they are the wrong side of plenty of £££££££££££££.

A bloke i once knew worked at a wharf on the Thames in the late 50's 's they had a large bucket conveyor for shifting bulk cargo. The conveyor was linked by chains & driven by sprockets. One day it broke & all the buckets & chain ended up jammed in the bottom of its enclosure shaft. Due to the height they ended up with about 4 chainblocks one above the other hanging of each other lifting the lot out. It got jammed up & the foreman told Bob to go in the shaft & bar the jammed bucket loose. He refused as did several other blokes as it looked so dodgy. The result was the foreman went in & you guessed it one of the chains broke & the whole lot came down on top of him. Apparently they hosed him out of the shaft.
