zinc primer is quite high build and the etch i have is thin- the etch has better adhesion to bare metal-so can i put the zinc over the etch?
i generaly use 2k acid etch on anything that realy matters .then use a build up primer zinc or otherwise then a topcoat![]()
. just the same as overcoating with red oxide or or grey celly primer
red oxide is well known for its corrosion protection properties and it good straight to metal for this reason
where as celly primer is just a basic primer.
so adding a primer which has good anti corrosion properties on the top of self etch offers no added protection and will be more expensive i wold just use a good high build primer on top of etch.[/QUOTEi get all my paints from the sales for next to nothing .anything half decent and worth doing properly i etch prime and coat with 2k. or an enamel . anything sh ,.,..,ty steel red oxides ok rsj s ect but easily chips off

cheap is goodbut is becoming rare
red oxide is well known for its corrosion protection properties
Someone told me the active ingredients which used to make red oxide good for corrosion protection have been legislated away for safety/environmental reasons - is there any truth in that?
looks interestingI've just used this> http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250588165729&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:VRI
It's gone on really well and well respected in the marine industry.
Might be cheaper in the long run?
