I'm trying to find a place where I can buy a 40 to 50 mtr coil of 5- 6 mm dia solid stainless steel wire . The usual suspect search engines kept shoving me to their favourite sites that pay them . and they always appear to be 0,5 mm or less twisted stainless steel wire rope .
I'm seeking it as a hobby project that needs to come in under £75 for the wire .
If round wire is not available perhaps 7 x 4 thick flat oval stainless could be used . So advice please guys & gals.

Does 6mm solid stainless even come in a continuous coil? I've got some metre long pieces and it's hardly what I'd call wire, it would be a nightmare to straighten a coil of it.

A couple of years back I needed some NiFe wire for laser welding. It was available at £3k a roll. I managed to find a roll from a salvage company for £100. Problem was it was too thick. So I started contacting wire making companies…Well.. that was educational. Eventually I found Knight precision wire in Potters bar. Absolute gems. Nothing was a problem and I landed up getting the roll drawn down by them from 1mm to 0,4mm. £750 to do it which, seeing I landed up with a 17km length of wire ,was well worth it.

Look them up. No Affiliation to them, just a happy customer. If they cannot help, I am sure they will point you in the right direction. Most of the companies I contacted were too busy pulling their own wire to be of any use
Unfortunately I think £75 for 40 meters is probably unrealistic at the moment

Yes it does,before going through straightening rolls and being cut to length

I would have thought Alibaba would pop up in your searches. There will be a company there that will supply it for sure.

Only half the length you want and 2/3 the price, but the diameter and material is OK:

Stainless steel annealed wire - 304 - 6 mm/0.236 inch

Annealing of drawn stainless wires soften them for maximum formability with regular tensile strength.

The key seems to be to include 'annealed' in your search as that will exclude wire rope.

Got is sorted , looked at things differently........ I can still TIG braze it .

I 've decided to use 19 mm safe edge road sign banding strip in 316 marine grade stainless steel 0.78 mm thick @ £35 ish per 30 mtr reel

Interesting, whats the purpose?

I want to make ten bespoke hanging baskets about 300 mm in diameter with a ring of touching legs at eh bottom and then evenly space at the top . 3.142 x 12 = 37 inches so say ten uprights the bottom ring made to suitn .
I may do horizontal bands with just four verticals and line with thick 30 yr pond liner as the water retaining skin then insert a rubberized coca fibre bowl . make them a bit like to old honey bee skeps hives .

What I've seen in the likes of Wilkinson's , Pound Stretchers , garden centres & on line are utter rubbish even for £4 - £10 or so for the bare basket , then £ 2.50 for coir the lining bowl , they'd be rusted out in two seasons . Just like my current ones are . I don't want cheap or even expansive plastic ones either. Though the rubberized coir fibre bowl inserts are around 8 yrs or more old .

There will also be a call to one of our resident metal workers for 20 x 1 mtr strips of 5 mm stainless steel about 20 mm wide so I can make some scrolled basket wall hangers .. the 8 yr old mild steel ones are now starting to lose their plastic coats and showing serious rusting at the weld points Hanging devices will be high grade thin stainless steel rigging wires with swaged on crimps to form the loops , the replacement chain hangers I've used don't last much over three years .

It's not about money per se but as a hobby that enjoyable and mind occupying with some thing to show at the end of making them that should see me turn my toes up by several years.

I've just found these 14 " hanging baskets in marine stainless ...currently @ £75 each . WOW & hey won't contain the liner or internal rubberized coir as will as mine will .

Nothing wrong with a bit of overkill but clearly, you do need to keep half an eye out for the aesthetic design. I mean, these are for looking at right? Take your engineers hat off and do a lot of interative design before you even prototype would be my advice.

Also, I thought these things used to be simple wire baskets, galvanised. I'm guessing they'd be more expensive to manufacture from scratch. Do look nice tho.

Looking in Wilkinson's yesterday I noticed they also are also selling rolls of rubberized coir ..

Hmm oblong baskets , square ones' , box shaped one's one 's made up of loads of brazed 50 mm rings of ss banding or 5 mm rod ..... your imagination is the limiter .

Just had am amusing thought a two foot long barreled tank in Ukrainian flag coloured flowers & trailing cammo such as ivy .......pointing East ........ the list is only limited by your thinking .

Most of the basket frame will be hidden by seasonal flowers . variegated ivy , snow drops ,primroses small bulbs and corms then pinks pansy's . trailing red geramiums , long trailing nasturtiums & long trailing lobelia etc etc.
