Can U-POL filler paste material be rejuvenated if not used for a while.

I have always liked using U-POL brand filler. The current tin I have is 3.5litre size, and still has about 25% left. It has dried out a bit since I got it. The lid has always been replaced.

Is there any appropriate solvent etc I can add to the paste to enable me to use it?

Probably not worth the hassle ? Especially if it causes further problems with the final finish

Not worth the hassle, I have tried this in the past, added a bit of polyester resin & although it made it softer & smoother the cure wasnt that good & it stayed soft no matter how much catalyst you put in. Not good if you have to sand it & paint over it.

As other ls have said, get a fresh can. Maybe best to buy smaller cans depending on usage levels.

Hi Mel, I only use it for jobs that don't need a decent appearance. For example:
I repaired the holes in friend's kitchen cupboard that had been abused.

The hinge holes of the chipboard cabinets needed filling with extra hardener, then drilling with tiny drill bits for a pilot holes. Them so of jobs.

Another job was an outdoor window sill that had seen better days.

Appearance is the least of your worries if "it stayed soft no matter how much catalyst you put in".

Price up the replacement cost of what you have left. Price up the smallest amount of "juice" you could buy to slop into it. Roll the dice and consider how lucky you feel when deciding how much to add.

I buy body filler by the big 3.5 ltr cans & get through a couple a year, towards the end they get a bit dried out & then i will buy new especially if its a job that will show.
As for Epoxy I dont like using out of date stuff. A local dealer used to sell tons of it & if you were lucky it worked ok, but i knew of at least two jobs where it didnt cure properly & it cost a bomb to put right.
I learnt the hard way with some epoxy pitch two pack, had a job to finish & thought "Its old but it will do", A week later it hadnt cured, I ended up scraping the black half cured goo off & washing it with gunwash to get the residue off. Never again.

just do a test piece if u have the resin .it either will or it wont

Never tried but would warming it up before adding the hardner help?...just bit by bit as you're using it if course.

Those big tubs of filler usually have a puddle of resin sitting on the top when first opened, worth giving it a stir before first use and maybe laying a plastic bag on top if it’s going to be left a while.
