Can I Reverse the Flow in a Silencer?

This is for my big generator, the silencer in question is 10" diameter by 24" long cylindrical with inlet and exit at the ends with 2 1/2" BSP fittings. The inlet currently has an elbow and the outlet has a straight coupling and I want them the other way round. Now theoretically I can just unscrew them and put them on the other ends, but this is an exhaust system that's been in use for some time, and I suspect that unscrewing will be more than just a minor issue.

So can I reverse the gas flow ? (I don't see why not, but I'm no silencer expert!)

I’m probably no more expert on the issue than yourself, but I have never seen or worked with a silencer ware the flow direction is marked.

if they where directional then the direction would have to be indicated.

Could be worthwhile replacing if it's old anyway, they do wear out. Other than that shouldn't be an issue especially if it's a straight through box

Should not be an issue.
Try it.
The first few runs you will get a lot of rubbish being blow back out. Bare that in mind.

Have a peak inside, some have gang blades pressed into the perforated tubes which make them directional.
