I'm currently working on a Reliant project so the body is all fibre glass. I have a painter friend who is going to paint the top coat for me but to save him time/work I said I'd do all the prep for him. Now I know sprayers hear these words and then don't want to do the job in case it goes all pear shaped.... I understand that.
My plan is to repair the body as best I can which is where I am now. There are tiny imperfections and pin holes in the gel coat here and there that are a pain to fix using filler. So I plan to use Lechler Green TI and brush/roller it on as I've heard it's really good stuff. Then flat this dry to 500 and hand it over to my friend. I'm not expecting concourse results by the way. Just "decent" will do.
Only other issue to consider is that some of the panels have already been treated to aerosol UPOL #5 hi build primer. This is only in certain areas as it helped me see where the imperfections and pin holes were. I could never spot them otherwise. So I stopped using it to consider the Lechler Green instead.
Will the Lechler Green go over the UPOL #5 ok? The UPOL was done about three months ago so it's had ages to dry in garage. It doesn't stand outside.
I have no paint equipment and I'm just trying my best to lessen the burden on my mate, who is doing me a favour anyway.
