Can emulsion paint be used to colour concrete

I am referring to using my electric cement mixer for a few batches of concrete, not just a small amount like a couple of shovels.

I saw on YT that acrylic paint can be used for this. The issue is the cost of larger containers of acrylic paint. There are plenty of shops selling the arty stuff in tiny amounts. I only want one colour. It is for use in a garden project. Maybe green or brown behind plants. So, can emulsion be used?

You can buy concrete dye powder.
Called mortar tone.

I checked that out a few years. I only mentioned emulsion because I think it would be the economical option? I don't know if emulsion will work.

Try a sample, half a glass of paint, half a bucket of muck.

But, I'm sure they sell dye, for a reason.

the 2 window panels are dyed to match stone colour: every panel wanted a new stone owners wanted a repair instead but with cement mix you have to do a few stuff with it or it will come off the wall

I reckon I will need about 6 batches. Maybe fifty quid to colour.

I think that unless you applied a water-proof sealant on the surface, then it would wash out to a large degree. Not keen on this idea.

thats not your issue colour matching is though and it all depends on how well you can colour mix or weigh the product mixes

its not an issue however it does colour change due to the suns bleaching effect like most man made products out there

all those panels was done with thompsons water repellant and so was the whole house with a pump sprayer as easier to do it that way

I may be wrong but I understand it as 1kg colours 20kg of cement and the ballast is extra. About 15kg of cement dust goes in a belle mini mix so 5 tubs.

I do know that emulsion is more difficult to remove than you think when a tub is spilt from the top of a step ladder on to the side and alloy wheels of the bosses Merc.
I never really fitted in at that place anyway..

I use 5 x 10 Litre buckets for my mix which are smaller than the 2 gal buckets.
3 pebs
2 sand
1 cement
I have not weighed them. The pebs probably weigh about 7kg each.

Realistically the the weight of one me is probably double my original estimate.

If I do decide to colour, I think I would do it after. Cement sealer after fully set/dry. Ronseal do an outdoor Masonary paint. Then maybe seal after painting?

As I read it you only account for the cement dust weight. You ignore the weight of the other ingredients. So for each bag of cement dust you buy you need 1 pot of toner.

its not cheapest option to use addative But it is permanent and cost effective labour wise

You will probably find that it will take more than £8 worth of emulsion to have the same effect as £8 worth of cement dye.
