My trusty Cebora pocket turbo 130, slightly modified has been occasionally welding mainly car bodywork for the past 35 years at which it has worked well, but recently welding repair panels on a tractor linkbox at near its full power, I've discovered its limitations. Bit frustrating having to keep waiting for it to cool down and reset. I see its duty rating is just 15% at 100A. Had a look at cheap more powerful mig welders and been a bit surprised by their duty cycles. The much talked of R-Tech 180 costing some £550 is just 35% at 180A, while the new Bester 200S at £480 is a mere 10% at 200A, both relatively expensive machines. Meanwhile the £325 Blackline 250 claims 60% at 250A, while at just £199, the Hitbox 250DP claims pulsed output and 60% duty at 250A.
Are these duty cycles and outputs likely to be true? On specs, the Hitbox looks a bargain, has anyone experience of one?
